RAIL TRAVEL

Bicester is well connected to the national rail network via its two stations, Bicester North and Bicester Town.  Excellent services link the town to Oxford, Birmingham and London.  With the coming of East West Rail, the connections will only improve with direct services through to Milton Keynes and Bedford.

RAILCARDS & DISCOUNTS

The cost of traveling by train in the United Kingdom can be very expensive but it can be cut by around a 1/3 if you buy a railcard.  Most cost around £30 (£20 for certain people) and can be bought in advance online: www.railcard.co.uk.  Railcards are ideal for occasional and off-peak travelers and for groups of 2 or more.

OFFER:  Chiltern Railways also offer a very good deal called "2 Pay, 4 Travel" that allows up to four adults to travel for the cost of two adults.  This ticket has reasonable terms and conditions and can only be purchased from Chiltern Railway's ticket offices at manned stations.  This type of ticket is ideal if a group of adults wish to make a night of it in London or Oxford.  Details: www.chilternrailways.co.uk/group-travel

FUTURE CHANGES

It is expected that in 2023, East West Rail Phase 2 will open re-connecting Bicester to Milton Keynes and Bedford via Bletchley.  It will also be possible to reach Aylesbury too.  The map below shows how this new railway will dramatically increase the number of options for journeys across the UK by rail.  On Phase 2 commenced in 2018.  The future Phase 3 will see the railway connected to Cambridge and beyond.
